Eligibility & selection
- Who can apply: Graduates from any university (NZ or overseas) intending to enrol full-time for a PhD at Victoria University of Wellington. (Not only Master’s holders—strong Bachelor’s/Honours graduates can be considered.)
- Typical profile: Excellent academic record, strong references, and/or clear potential for high-quality research; publications commensurate with experience are a plus.
- Selection: Made by the University Research Scholarships Committee; alignment with School/Institute research priorities may be considered.
Key conditions (highlights)
- Full-time enrolment normally required (limited paid work allowed up to ~600 hours/year with approval).
- Start within ~6 months (domestic) or ~9 months (international) of accepting the offer, unless exceptional deferment is granted.
- Progress reviews every six months; stipend ceases within ~1 month of thesis submission.
